You can now follow the best fansite on the web (this one, duh!) on Twitter. Just click the logo below to start following!

Why follow, you say? Breaking news, small updates not worthy of news posts of their own (like this one hehe), contest reminders, and more will all be available on Twitter! Obviously we’ll still be bringing the same great news right here, but get the scoop on everyone else by following the site!

As a general note about the site, we’ve been having a lot of problems on the back end of things with our host, which results in malicious scripts getting injected into the code used to power everything. I do monitor this daily and remove the scripts as soon as I see them, but you may see warnings from your browsers if you beat me to it. If this happens, you can Tweet at me or e-mail me and I’ll remove it ASAP. In the meantime while Kim & I work this problem out, I recommend everyone download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and run it if you get a warning, just to be safe.

And finally, if you haven’t done so yet, make sure you get your show tune recommendations in by Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00 pm ET by commenting on the previous news update!

A SHOW OF SHOW TUNES?

A SHOW OF SHOW TUNES?

On a recent airing of his Sirius XM Radio show, “Live on Broadway,” Seth Rudetsky reportedly mentioned that Idina had emailed him, stating her desire to put on a concert of show tunes later this fall. She even asked him for song ideas!

What about you? If you could hear Idina sing any show tune, what would it be? Time to think outside the box – guy song, girl song, ensemble song! Post your dream tunes in the comments. The list might end up in her inbox and you never know – she just might take your request!

Note: This is in no way an official concert announcement of any such concert. Nothing is scheduled at this time, but if/when such a thing comes to a fruition, it will definitely be posted here. For now, this is just for fun. smile

Note #2: If you don’t want to publically state your choices, you can also email them to me at erin[AT]idina-here.com with “Show Tunes” as your subject. :)

REQUESTS NOW CLOSED! THANK YOU!

‘CHESS IN CONCERT’ HITTING THE BIG SCREEN IN UK

‘CHESS IN CONCERT’ HITTING THE BIG SCREEN IN UK

UKers, listen up! Chess in Concert will be hitting a cinema near you soon. Hollywood Reporter’s saying the Tim Rice musical will be shown in movie theaters in September.

Movie theaters will be alive to the sound of “Chess in Concert,” a recording of a shindig celebrating 25 years of the musical “Chess,” after alternative content distributor More2Screen and Warner Music Entertainment struck a theatrical distribution deal.

The duo will push the recorded concert out to theaters in the U.K. and Ireland for two days in September ahead of the planned home entertainment rollout the same month, the partners said Tuesday.

Directed by Hugh Wooldridge, adapted by Wooldridge and Tim Rice, and conducted by David Firman, the special performance was recorded live at a 25th anniversary concert at the Royal Albert Hall.

With story and lyrics by Rice, music by Abba’s Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson and songs such as “One Night in Bangkok” performed by Murray Head, and “I Know Him So Well” performed by Barbara Dixon and Elaine Paige, “Chess” was a success when it was released in 1984.

The concert features a cast including multiplatinum-selling artist Josh Groban and Broadway stars Idina Menzel and Adam Pascal performing alongside the 100-strong West End Chorus and the City of London Philharmonic Orchestra.

More2Screen managing director Christine Costello said: “The phenomenal success of (musical and movie) ‘Mamma Mia!’ shows the potential for musicals in cinema, and we hope ‘Chess in Concert’ will delight its many existing fans, as well as finding some new ones, when it plays on the big screen this September.”

London-based More2Screen provides cultural programming to digitally equipped cinemas and at big screen venues in the U.K.

p.s. I know it’s been pretty quiet lately while Idina’s incubating their upcoming bundle of joy. I’ll be posting a contest in the coming days to give everyone an Idina-related activity to maybe cut the withdrawals a bit. wink

UPDATE! The NY Pops is now offering their complete suite from the fireworks celebration for HQ download. Head over to their site by clicking here to download Idina’s track for yourself!

MACY’S 4TH OF JULY EVENT

MACY’S 4TH OF JULY EVENT

Tony winners Audra McDonald and Idina Menzel will perform Stephen Flaherty and William Schermerhorn’s “American River Suite” as part of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks celebration.

New York Pops’ music director Steven Reineke conducts the commissioned work that features a score by Tony winner Flaherty (Ragtime, Once on This Island, The Glorious Ones) and lyrics by William Schermerhorn. “American River Suite” commemorates the 400th anniversary of the exploration of New York Harbor and the Hudson River.

In addition to McDonald (Ragtime, Carousel, Raisin in the Sun) and Menzel (Rent, Wicked), “American River Suite” will include the voices of the Choir Academy of Harlem.

“American River Suite” originally premiered as part of The New York Pops’ 26th Birthday Gala in April, featuring Menzel and Tony winner Anika Noni Rose (Caroline, or Change, “Dreamgirls”).

The 9 PM Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks celebration will be telecast live on NBC television and on 1010 WINS radio from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York Harbor.

Also, just a reminder that Chess in Concert is now available on CD & DVD in the US & UK (at Dress Circle)! However, the Warner Bros limited edition set that was/is available for pre-order was pushed back until July 21 to put finishing touches on the extras that come with it. Just an FYI.
