NEW YORK (CNN) \u2014 Idina Menzel has come a long way since her days as a wedding singer. She came out of nowhere, sizzling on Broadway as the sex kitten in the sleeper hit \u201cRent.\u201d And now she\u2019s singing her own songs on her debut album.<\/p>\n
As she attains each new dream, Menzel proves that she is a woman constantly seeking the fast track to success.<\/p>\n
In fact, her first album is titled \u201cStill I Can\u2019t Be Still.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a take on all the meanings of the word \u2018still,’\u201d Menzel says. \u201cStill, meaning serenity, calmness; and still, meaning more to come. And I think that it really stemmed from the fact that there were all these wonderful things happening for me while I was in \u2018Rent,\u2019 and then given the opportunity to make my album. And I was constantly unsatisfied, and through that stemmed probably a lot of the emotion in many of the songs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Power Couple on the Rise<\/strong><\/p>\n The first single off the album is called \u201cMinuet.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018Minuet\u2019 is a song about my boyfriend, but it\u2019s a song about the graceful dance between the sound of one\u2019s heartbeat and their breath at one time,\u201d Menzel says.<\/p>\n Menzel\u2019s boyfriend is Taye Diggs, her co-star in \u201cRent\u201d and star of the film \u201cHow Stella Got Her Groove Back.\u201d While he was shooting his first film, she was recording her first album.<\/p>\n \u201cIt feels like we\u2019re on the right path,\u201d Menzel says. \u201cIt feels like it was meant to be, the relationship, the career decisions, everything.\u201d<\/p>\n Getting Closer<\/strong><\/p>\n But don\u2019t think Menzel\u2019s success in her career and personal life will slow her down.<\/p>\n \u201cA year ago I think I was quoted in some playbill article saying, \u2018What do you want to do in a year?\u2019 and I said, \u2018I\u2019d like to be on a bus, opening for Lenny Kravitz,\u201d Menzel says. \u201cI didn\u2019t get the Lenny Kravitz gig, I think he\u2019s in Europe doing something else \u2014 but somebody like (Kravitz)\u201d is what she aspires to, she says. \u201cSo I was at Lilith Fair and I was in a van, and I think I\u2019m getting closer and closer to that goal.\u201d<\/p>\n And she won\u2019t be still until she achieves it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" NEW YORK (CNN) \u2014 Idina Menzel has come a long way since her days as a wedding singer.
