Idina Menzel and her sister Cara Mentzel teamed up to sing \u201cNever Never Land\u201d to coincide with the upcoming release of Mentzel\u2019s memoir, Voice Lessons: A Sisters Story<\/em>.<\/p>\n The Broadway actress, 46, explains in the video that Peter Pan<\/em> was the first musical she and her younger sibling saw together, and the experience \u201cchanged our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n Mentzel\u2019s book\u00a0(she kept the\u00a0\u201cT\u201d in their last name, while Idina dropped it)\u00a0tells of her instant bond\u00a0at birth\u00a0with the future\u00a0Frozen<\/em> star \u2014 before being separated in infancy due to a case of whooping cough. Following a year in the hospital, Mentzel reunited with her older sis and the family soon moved from New Jersey to Long Island to ease her father\u2019s commute to New York City.<\/p>\n Though Mentzel\u2019s young illness put the attention on her at first, Menzel soon stole the spotlight, forcing the younger child\u2014now an elementary school teacher and mother of two\u2014to navigate her own path.<\/p>\n \u201cI had to listen to Dee\u2019s voice a lot in order to find my own,\u201d Mentzel, 43, says. \u201cIt feels like a really appropriate metaphor.\u201d<\/p>\n Menzel agrees that while she went on to pursue music professionally, it\u2019s always played a role in both of their lives. \u201cIt\u2019s sort of come full circle that we were these two little girls, me trying to give her voice lessons,\u201d says the Tony winner, who married her Rent<\/em> costar Aaron Lohr last month. \u201cForty years later, we\u2019re in a recording studio and I\u2019m doing the same thing.\u201d<\/p>\n Voice Lessons: A Sisters Story<\/em>, which includes a foreword by Menzel,<\/em> is available in bookstores and digitally Oct. 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Sisters in song!
