{"id":887,"date":"2020-04-04T18:23:16","date_gmt":"2020-04-04T18:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.idina-here.com\/press\/?p=887"},"modified":"2020-04-04T18:23:16","modified_gmt":"2020-04-04T18:23:16","slug":"frozen-2-stars-talk-possible-100-million-debut-which-disney-princess-could-be-bisexual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.idina-here.com\/press\/frozen-2-stars-talk-possible-100-million-debut-which-disney-princess-could-be-bisexual\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Frozen 2\u2019 Stars Talk Possible $100 Million Debut, Which Disney Princess Could Be Bisexual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/playlist.megaphone.fm\/?e=HSW8181475313\" width=\"100%\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><span style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><br \/>\nWelcome to a special edition of \u201cThe Big Ticket,\u201d <em>Variety<\/em> and iHeart\u2019s movie podcast.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m calling it \u201cFrozen 2\u201d Day because the new episode features interviews with the stars of the Disney sequel, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff and Evan Rachel Wood as well as co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and producer Peter Del Vecho.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the highlights\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kristen Bell<\/strong> says \u201cFrozen\u2019s\u201d impact goes way beyond what kids get out of it. \u201cThere have been numerous times that people in our team have heard of adults being in a really low place and said, \u2018I was considering suicide, and I saw \u201cFrozen\u201d and I realized I can be me,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Bell\u2019s new show for Disney Plus, \u201cEncore,\u201d reunites former high school theater club members to perform their school musical. \u201cThere\u2019s so few things that unite us all, but you say the words \u2018high school\u2019 to anyone on the planet, and they get a pit in their stomach and they feel like they\u2019re going to puke, because high school is traumatic,\u201d she said. \u201cTo come back, it\u2019s like time travel and people make amends, people say things they wish they had said, people tell their stories: \u2018I behaved like a bully because this was happening to me.\u2019 You watch human connection happen right in front of you. People come out of the closet. It\u2019s beautiful to watch, and it\u2019s one of the things I\u2019m most proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"adm-inline-article-ad-1\" class=\"admz\">\n<div class=\"adma google-publisher\" data-device=\"Desktop\" data-width=\"300\">\n<div class=\"pmc-adm-goog-pub-div ad-text\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Idina Menzel<\/strong> knows Ariana Grande would love to play Elphaba in the movie adaptation of \u201cWicked,\u201d but she still wants to do the film after having won a Tony for her work as the iconic witch back in 2004. \u201cI still think that I should be Elphaba and I should just show up, slap that green makeup on me and get some CGI and Benjamin Button the s\u2014 out of that,\u201d Menzel laughed, adding, \u201cI mean I love you, Ariana, but I still am relevant here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Menzel also says she\u2019s ashamed to admit it but she recently tried to use her \u201cFrozen\u201d fame with a doctor\u2019s receptionist to get her son in earlier than their scheduled appointment. \u201cI was like, I don\u2019t know, you know, I\u2019m an actress and I have to get to this premiere tonight. \u2018Do you have any daughters? It\u2019s called \u201cFrozen\u201d and I sing \u201cLet It Go,\u201d\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The receptionist wasn\u2019t impressed: \u201cShe actually didn\u2019t give a s\u2014 and that teaches me a lesson.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Josh Gad<\/strong> participated in an early reading of \u201cFrozen\u201d when it was called \u201cAnna and the Snow Queen\u201d with Jason Biggs, Megan Mullaly and Ginnifer Goodwin. Even so, he still had to audition to play Olaf in the movie. His audition song? \u201cYou\u2019ve Got a Friend in Me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonathan Groff<\/strong> recorded a song Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez wrote for him for \u201cFrozen 2\u201d after he didn\u2019t get the chance to sing in the first movie, but the tune got cut. \u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, okay, they tried. It didn\u2019t work. I totally get it. It\u2019s completely fine,\u2019\u201d Groff recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Then they wrote him another song, \u201cLost in the Woods,\u201d which did make it into the movie.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been a lot of talk on social media about Elsa getting a girlfriend one day. LGBTQ fans love to dissect animated Disney films for any hints of queer themes, storylines or characters. I asked <strong>Evan Rachel Wood<\/strong>, who came out as bisexual eight years ago, if she thinks an animated Disney film will ever feature a lead character who is queer. She laughed, \u201cI\u2019m still not convinced that we haven\u2019t already with Mulan and Hercules. Honestly, Mulan is still up for debate. I think there\u2019s a little bi-energy going on there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrozen 2\u201d co-director and chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios <strong>Jennifer Lee<\/strong>\u00a0says an LGBTQ lead character isn\u2019t out of the question. \u201cI mean there are no limits to the characters we can have,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>You can listen to all the \u201cFrozen 2\u201d interviews above.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ufeff Welcome to a special edition of \u201cThe Big Ticket,\u201d Variety and iHeart\u2019s movie podcast.
