Idina Menzel has signed on to star in a remake of Beaches for Lifetime! The original Beaches starred Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey and featured the classic song “Wind Beneath My Wings”.  Idina will play CC, a cynical aspiring singer who develops a lifelong friendship with a debutante named Hillary at the Venice boardwalk in Los Angeles.

Per EW, the movie is expected to feature new takes on “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love” and include several other songs recorded specifically for the movie!

Production on the remake will begin Aug. 15 in Vancouver and the movie will premiere on Lifetime in 2017.

Block, Adrienne Warren, Len Cariou, Richard Kind, Tom Wopat, Wilson Cruz, Michael Longoria, Rosie Perez, Ann Hampton Callaway, Liz Callaway, Nicholas Callaway Foster, Olga Merediz, Michelle Collins, Jon Viktor Corpuz, Sharon Gless, Roz Ryan, Mary Ann Hu, Anika Larsen, Margaret Stallings, Eve Plumb, Montego Glover, Michael Urie, Carmen Cusak, Darius de Haas, Melissa Errico, Janet Metz, as well as Broadway for Orlando creators Van Dean of Broadway Records, Seth Rudetsky, James Wesley, and their daughter, Juli Wesley.

Of course, Idina was part of the “Broadway For Orlando” project, which benefits the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
