SESAME STREET ANNOUNCED

SESAME STREET ANNOUNCED

The Sesame Workshop put out a press release today announcing the 41st season of children’s television classic Sesame Street. They have confirmed that Idina and Taye will be guest stars on an upcoming episode and will be in the “Word of the Day” segment, presenting the word “allergic.” A still from the episode has also been revealed, though the air date for their episode has not yet been confirmed (we’ll tweet it when we know). Cute!

In case you missed E!’s report on this back in March, you can watch a quick clip from the Sesame set below.

PBS PRESS TOUR

PBS PRESS TOUR

PBS is conducting their Summer 2010 Television Critics Association Press Tour this evening, and Idina was asked to be a panelist to discuss her experience performing for the Obamas at the White House in July as part of In Performance at the White House: A Broadway Celebration. There’s a chance that PBS may upload the session to their YouTube, but if not, at least attendees were nice enough to Tweet some quotes from her:

On getting the call to perform at the White House: “What a milestone in my life. gave myself a little pat on the back.”

On her Wicked audition: “When I left the audition I went hysterical crying because the role makes you open yourself up so much.”

On Glee: “Somehow, roundabout, Glee is helping people gain a respect for the theater and I’m fortunate to be part of both.”

About performing for President Obama: “I had cotton mouth. I perhaps spit on the President.”

And, of course, HQ photos!

In Performance at the White House: A Broadway Celebration will air on PBS affiliates October 20th. Check your local listings to confirm time and date when it nears.

Check back tonight/tomorrow for photos from her concert this evening with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra in Hyannis, MA. 15,000 people are expected to be in attendance. Yowza!

THE KENNEDY CENTER

THE KENNEDY CENTER

It was announced today that Idina will be replacing fellow Broadway legend Patti LuPone as the guest vocalist for the National Symphony Orchestra Pops season opening weekend October 28-30 at Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center.

Hot on the heels of her sold-out performance with the NSO at Wolf Trap in July, Tony winner Idina Menzel (Wicked) opens the NSO Pops season with Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch in a diverse program of classic pop, musical theater favorites (including hits from Wicked and Rent) and her own original stories and songs. A powerhouse of talent, the Glee favorite constantly amazes audiences with her compelling, humorous, and emotional performances.

In a statement Idina said, “I am delighted to return to the National Symphony Orchestra so quickly, and especially to open the NSO’s Pops Season with Marvin Hamlisch. We all worked together for the first time just a few days ago at Wolf Trap, and we had a terrific time. I can’t wait to be with Marvin and the NSO again!”

Tickets go on sale to the public August 11th and are $20 – $85 and can be purchased (at that time) on the Kennedy Center’s website.
