If/Then

If/Then

If you missed the Twitter & Facebook frenzy, Idina has been confirmed to return to Broadway next year in a new musical If/Then!  Idina had the following to say:

“I’ve experienced the beauty of working on original musicals and was eager to find a project where the material was exciting and new and spoke to my heart.  I’m thrilled to have finally found it—an original musical with a complex, flawed and surprising central character that I cannot wait to bring to life onstage. I have loved collaborating with Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey on the creation of this character. And it is such a blessing to be reunited with Michael Greif, who launched my career with Rent, and David Stone, who took such good care of me with Wicked. I am extremely excited about If/Then and very much look forward to returning home to Broadway.”

The show will premiere in Washington DC from November 5th to December 8th before transferring to Broadway in March 2014.  If you’ve seen one of Idina’s recent symphony concerts, then you’ve seen her perform a song from the new musical.  If you haven’t seen it yet, here you go!  It’s such a gorgeous song and I can’t wait to see it!

And on a related note, Idina performed last night in the American Songbook concert series in a tribute to Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey (who wrote If/Then).  She sang the above song, “You Learn to Live Without” as well as another one called “Here I Go.”  There have been a few pictures added to the gallery.

The overwhelming favorite song from this tour in last month’s poll was…

Defying Gravity and Somewhere Over the Rainbow/The Wizard & I were second and third place.

More information is trickling out about Disney’s new movie, Frozen, which will feature Idina as the voice of the Snow Queen.

Blurb from Disney:

“In Frozen, a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Idina Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.”

And more from the Comic Book Industry’s the Bleeding Cool:

“When Anna is cursed by her estranged sister, the cold-hearted Snow Queen, Anna’s only hope of reversing the curse is to survive a perilous but thrilling journey across an icy and unforgiving landscape. Joined by a rugged, thrill-seeking outdoorsman, his one-antlered reindeer and a hapless snowman, Anna must race against time, conquer the elements and battle an army of menacing snowmen if she ever hopes to melt her frozen heart.”

The film won’t be out until November 2013, so we have a long, long wait!
